A Day of Street Photography in Oslo

A Day of Street Photography in Oslo – Testing My New Black & White Lightroom Preset

Oslo is a fantastic city for street photography, offering a mix of modern architecture, historic buildings, and vibrant urban life. Armed with my Sony A7RIII and a Samyang 35mm lens, I set out on a one-day photography walk to explore the city and test my new black & white Lightroom preset before launching it in my store.

The Route – Capturing Oslo’s Urban Pulse

My journey began at Oslo S, the central train station, where I captured the early morning commuters. The contrast of hurried footsteps against the modern steel-and-glass structures made for dynamic shots. From there, I headed toward Sørenga, a picturesque waterfront area perfect for catching light reflections and shadows in monochrome.

Next, I walked back through Barcode, a striking area with contemporary high-rise buildings. The mix of geometric patterns and bustling city life provided excellent opportunities for high-contrast black & white images. I then passed through Grønland, one of Oslo’s most diverse neighborhoods, where market stalls, street art, and people going about their daily routines added depth to my compositions.

Moving up Karl Johans gate, Oslo’s main shopping street, I focused on candid moments—street musicians, window shoppers, and tourists admiring the city’s architecture. Finally, my route led me to Tjuvholmen and Aker Brygge, two modern waterfront districts where I played with light, reflections, and textures to create moody urban compositions.

Testing My Black & White Lightroom Preset

Throughout the day, my goal was not only to capture Oslo’s essence but also to test my new black & white Lightroom preset. I designed this preset to enhance contrast, bring out textures, and add a timeless, cinematic feel to street photography.

Key features of my preset include:

  • Deep blacks and bright whites for a dramatic effect

  • Fine-tuned contrast to highlight architectural elements

  • Balanced tonal range for a clean, professional look

After applying the preset to my shots, I was thrilled with the results. The preset brought out the mood and depth I envisioned, making every scene feel more immersive and timeless.

Final Thoughts

Exploring Oslo in black & white allowed me to see the city in a new way, focusing on shapes, contrasts, and emotions rather than colors. If you’re into street photography and love the classic monochrome style, I highly recommend trying my new black & white Lightroom preset—soon available in my online store!
