A Day Trip to Ytre Fure – A Hidden Gem in Norway
Last July, I embarked on a breathtaking day trip to Ytre Fure, a secluded coastal area in Norway that evokes the dramatic landscapes of Iceland and the Faroe Islands. The journey began at Indre Fure, where we parked and set out on foot towards the outer coast. A light summer drizzle accompanied us, intensifying the moody atmosphere and setting the perfect stage for capturing stunning, atmospheric photos.
The hike was both invigorating and serene, with the mist rolling over the rugged cliffs and the ocean waves crashing below. Upon reaching Ytre Fure, we discovered a handful of isolated houses standing resilient against the elements—silent witnesses to the power and beauty of nature. These structures, some weathered and timeworn, created an eerie yet captivating scene, perfect for dramatic compositions.

Ytre Fure is a small farm that was abandoned in the 1960’s. It was once home to a handful of families. Due to its remote location and the harsh coastal climate, the area was gradually deserted, leaving behind a collection of houses and remnants of its past. Today, it serves as a unique and untouched destination for hikers and photographers seeking solitude and raw natural beauty.
Ytre Fure
Whatever it is, The coastal scenery truly came alive with rolling fog, muted colors, and the stark contrast of the dark cliffs against the misty sky, providing endless opportunities for photography. The interplay of light and shadow in such conditions added depth and emotion to every frame.
If you’re looking for a unique destination that combines solitude, nature, and the perfect conditions for moody, cinematic photography, Ytre Fure is a must-visit. Whether you enjoy hiking, photography, or simply being immersed in untouched wilderness, this hidden gem in Norway is a place that will stay with you long after you leave.
